There a billion cryptos in the crypto market. Could Solana pass Bitcoin and Eth? If so, why?

I just want to make money. The metrics thrown out for why one blockchain is better than another are mostly a wash for me. Sure compare speed and fees against Ethereum or Bitcoin and look good. But in the basket of crypto that launched post 2018, base performance metrics look good for damn near everything

My username is solana maxee for a reason but once Kas gets hold of smart contracts it’s lights out. 100 blocks per second is absolutely insane. Solana is at 2.5

Enterprise loves Solana so yeah, SOL will explode to $2500 in years to come. Keep buying Sol so the price pumps, then I take profits.

The question isn’t whether it’s the best or not more so than is it the chain that, given the needs answers the best at this particular moment. And if we want mass adoption we will need to have the big boys coming in. What do they need? Super high through put for HFT, low fees and stability… if solana gets accepted, taken by wall street and the banks, it’s a massive win! Game wise they seem to be doing some cool stuff tho I still think gaming is marginal somehow. If we the trading infrastructure continues to develop then yeah, it will be a killer chain. I don’t see why anyone would still bet on Ethereum given the fees exception be made of the fact that: we know it works, it’s the oldest chain and thus has the most users but, even in the EVM world it’s hardly the best one…

Solana definitely has the best developer experience and that’s huge as far as pushing adoption. This factor alone could push it to the top.

I don’t believe it’s the best cryptocurrency though. It has 3 big problems:

    1. not private/fungible
    2. weak decentralization - being a validator is too hard and there are few.
    3. high inflation & premine which funds solana investors & solana dev team

    2 big positive though:

    1. extremely cheap and quick transactions. However, given the claims of centralization, some argue that it should be competing with centralized systems instead of other decentralized cryptocurrencies. Compared to a centralized system, SOL isn’t fast.
    2. Extremely good 3rd party dev support. Things like Solana pay massively improve lower the bar for acceptance.

Agree with you with everything but the centralization argument. It really is not centralized, Solana has 2k validator nodes or 3k if you also count RPC nodes, distributed around the world. When the state needs to be replicated on each node every 400 ms it is not really comparable to centralized service.

Solana is not passing Bitcoin in market cap within the next 7-10 years. Reason being is that Bitcoin is the only token that is looked at with legitimacy. It’s the gold of the digital world. It’s going to be seen as an asset to hedge against inflation. Solana and Bitcoin have very different goals.

I think Solana could surpass Ethereum. Not in this bull run but in the next one. Why? User experience. Solana has a much better user experience already than Eth. I haven’t heard anyone use Solana (more than just buying it) and walked away from it. It will take time, but the fees on Ethereum are ridiculous and relying on L2’s is not the solution. It never will be. They’re already discussing L3’s and they can’t even get L2’s to be decentralized enough for it to be safe.

I think this bull run is going to show people crypto is here to stay. Is Solana the best crypto? For right now yes. It does not have the best decentralized ecosystem but it does have the best speed/tps and scalability of any blockchain in the top 20 tokens but far. The decentralizing portion will grow with time and it’s not as big of an issue as Ethereum maxis make it out to be. So in my opinion, yes Solana is currently the best because of these factors.

BTC is king. Fundamentals are undeniable. But $SOL is the shiny new toy. It performed phenomenally although not nearly as decentralised but has a team pushing its interests.

    It’s great in different ways.
